October 23rd was Louisville Story's 'You Got To Be of The People' book signing event. It was also a great kickoff to the Cities United yearly convening coming up soon here in Louisville. It was a long night, almost lasting until 11pm, but it was a very special one, filled with lots of memories and impactful stories.
The Louisville Story program has organized and archived an amazing piece of the city's history. They've recorded in this book, not just this moment of unprecedented violence within the last few years, but decades of work, compassion and relationship building that's led to an interwoven web of support for countless young people. Cities United is giving Louisville a megaphone to reach other cities across the country - to share its story so that others can also be heard and helped.
There's inumerable stories to be told. Each one of us carry pivotal moments created by our partners, mentees, those we've lost, friends and family members that impacted us in such a way that we keep this tradition of helping moving forward. Sometimes it's rooted in our family, or sometimes it's the relationship we've built with someone who really cared.
Often, what gives comfort is knowing that someone else has been through something similar and everyone around you has a story to tell. The deep histories of all involved in this project will a guiding beacon for young adults and future youth doing this work for years to come - it's important we share these memories again and again. It's remarkable to see some of it encapsulated in Louisville's history and shared as a beautiful book.
Thank you so much to everyone who participated, and to the Louisville Story Program and Cities United for recording our stories. We are extremely grateful for the effort put into this. And it's a reminder of the work still ahead of us.
This week is the Cities United convening for 2025 at the Galt House. Learn more about the convening here. We hope to see you there!
